Juan Martin del Potro will play his return match against fellow Argentinian Federico Delbonis at the Argentina Open. Delpo himself looked excited about his return to the tennis court, as he posted numerous photos of himself training on social media. However, during the press conference, Del Potro revealed that it was more of a farewell tournament than a comeback.
“I spent a lot of time thinking and imagining this day, and I think it’s one of the most difficult messages I’ll ever deliver. I know people expect I return to tennis, but it is perhaps more a farewell than a return. said Delpo.
This news spread like wildfire as many former players and fans contacted the Argentine. Many congratulated Delpo on an outstanding career, but most of them felt sad at the news.
The weather @delpotrojuan waited an hour in the open locker room in the US for the last game of my career to end so he could give me a hug. A giant man with a giant heart. Much love and best wishes for the next chapter, my friend. https://t.co/yZtKNeXY9V

Toni Nadal: “Del Potro is the unluckiest man in tennis. If he hadn’t had so many injuries, he would have competed with the Big 3 consistently and fought to become the world No. ” 😭

Absolutely disgusted with Del Potro’s retirement. I often listened to tennis tournaments just to see him play.
His match against Andy Murray at the Rio Olympics was probably the best match I’ve seen on TV. 😢https://t.co/fihSfcbXPo

Del Potro was a court warrior and a court teddy bear. A gentleman. A real nice guy. What good memories of him… He would never see you without a hello, a smile or a wink. He always tried to answer every question. Now go enjoy your life, champ! Rehabilitation is over!

Del Potro’s injury toll is an argument against the existence of justice.
What a great player and a decent human. I hope he enjoys good health in retirement and soaks up the love he receives from all right-thinking people. https://t.co/mY9d2kznM6

It’s too much to take. However, I’m an optimist and I think he said “maybe” so it’s not over yet.

Delpo’s health issues are therefore obviously the worst thing to happen to men’s tennis in the 2010s.
Infectious game, massive heart. 💙

Can Delpo end his career in style?
Tomorrow, Del Potro may play his last match in Buenos Aires, and he has invited his mother to see him play. Interestingly, Delpo’s mother has never seen him play tennis before.
Juan Martin del Potro says his mother Patricia, who has never seen him play professionally on the court, will come to watch his match against Federico Delbonis on Tuesday night. @ArgentinaOpen

However, Delpo will certainly do his best not to end his career in defeat. If he can go all the way and win the Argentina Open, it will be a sweet way to say goodbye to tennis. And maybe he’ll change his mind about retirement.
