Registration in progress for the American Sign Language course at APSU


CLARKSVILLE, TN – Community registration is currently underway for the next session of Beginner and Intermediate levels of American Sign Language through Austin Peay State University’s Continuing Education Department.

If you were looking for an opportunity to start learning or building your skills in this beautiful language, this opportunity will provide you with instruction in basic conversational signs.

This course, offered by the Department of Continuing Education, is a non-credit course and does not require registration as a university student. Participants must be at least 18 years old and registered with the continuing education service.

The registration cost is $149, which includes all course materials needed. Classes for beginners will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., Monday to Thursday. The Intermediate Level course will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7-8:30 p.m. Classes will begin April 6, meet twice a week in the evenings on the APSU campus, and continue until May 25 .

Instructor Laura Farley has years of experience teaching ASL at Austin Peay. Students will interact and participate in skill-building activities and projects that make learning ASL both fun and rewarding.

The Continuing Education Department is a division of Austin Peay State University that offers non-credit courses that do not require a student to be enrolled in the college track. Courses include certification-type courses such as Phlebotomy Technician, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), American Sign Language, and other career and workforce certifications.
