NAIROBI, Kenya, November 19 – Kevin Wekesa, described by head coach Innocent ‘Namcos’ Simiyu as the next Andrew Amonde, is among two newbies who have been named to the traveling squad of 12 for the Dubai Sevens scheduled for next week.
Simiyu named Wekesa and Tony Omondi to the squad for their debut while there is a callback for Edmund Anya.
Wekesa was part of the Morans team at Safari Sevens while Anya played for Shujaa and earned her permanent spot.
“We are looking to improve the performance of our team in the quest to achieve our set goals. Wekesa has a lot of potential, indeed we see him as the next Andrew Amonde. Omondi was in contention for his Vancouver debut until a concussion ruled him out.
“Anya played well during the preseason Safari 7s, and apart from his pace and his ability to carry the ball, he brings another dimension to the air,” said coach Innocent Simiyu.
The team will be skippered by Nelson Oyoo.
Shujaa was drawn in Pool B with the United States, Argentina and Spain for the opening tournament.
