firefighters day

In honor of Firefighters Day, the Los Angeles County Fire Department invites Hermosa Beach residents and others to visit Fire Station 100, 540 Pier Ave., between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. h. Guests can meet local firefighters and tour the fire station. Fire Service Day is an annual county event to showcase department equipment.

Pets in the park

Hermosa Beach Friends of the Parks will present Pets in the Park from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Valley Park, 2521 Valley Drive. There will be a pet parade, animal blessing, animal adoptions, vaccinations and a taco truck. Admission is free, donations are welcome.

Derby night

“Sleeping Beauty”

Tickets are on sale for the Peninsula School of Performing Arts production of The Sleeping Beauty ballet. Hermosa Party

Fiesta Hermosa returns Memorial Day weekend, May 28-30. There will be changes this year. Organizers are moving the carnival to the street to accommodate a full family entertainment zone that will feature food, lemonade, activities, nonprofits and rides. The main stage is moving from Pier Plaza to the beach. For more information, visit

Remembrance Day Ceremony

Members of the community are invited to a Memorial Day ceremony scheduled for 1 p.m. May 30 at the Veterans Memorial at Veterans Park, 309 Esplanade, Redondo Beach. There will be reflections and memories, comments and honors to all who served and lost their lives in war. The keynote speaker is Captain Rebecca E. Ore of the US Coast Guard. The ceremony will be followed by a barbecue hosted by Redondo Elks Lodge #1378, 315 Esplanade. The barbecue is free for veterans and military, police and firefighters. A $5 donation is requested from all other guests.

Master choir concert

Los Cancioneros Master Chorale will perform “Music from Across the Pond” at 7 p.m. on June 12 at the Armstrong Theater, 3330 Civic Center Drive, Torrance.
