The Kelowna Ballet revives three of its most successful Canadian commissions.
The ballet will perform Reprise at the Kelowna Community Theater on February 18 and 19, 2022 at 7:30 p.m.
The collection of returning fan favorites showcases range and versatility from the company of Ballet Kelowna artists.
The program includes the technically brilliant classic work Within the Golden Raga, choreographed by Kunal Ranchod; the contemporary work, steeped in sensual Argentine tango, Cuatro Estaciones, choreographed by Ballet Kelowna Artistic Director and CEO Simone Orlando; and MAMBO, choreographed by Alysa Pires.

The program opens with the return of Within the Golden Raga by Montreal choreographer Ranchod, which premiered in February 2020.
A classic yet inventive ballet piece, featuring rapid sections of petit allegro, intricate pointe work and intimate duets, Ranchod’s first commission for Ballet Kelowna is a spiritually informed study of connection to people and the place, inspired by the duality of its Indian and Canadian heritage. education.
Audiences will then be transported to Buenos Aires, Argentina, with the re-enactment of Orlando’s evocative Cuatro Estaciones, which premiered in February 2019.
The tango-infused oeuvre, which includes seductive group formations and duets, is influenced by composer Astor Piazzolla, whose original compositions revolutionized traditional Argentine tango by incorporating elements of jazz into a new style known as new tango.
Set on Piazzolla’s Four Seasons of Buenos Aires, superimposed on Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, this contemporary work received rave reviews from audiences when it premiered and has since toured across British Columbia.
The evening will close with the contemporary work MAMBO by Pires, which premiered in Kelowna in February 2018, followed by presentations at the China International Performing Arts Expo in Beijing and the Fall for Dance North Festival in Toronto in September and October. 2018, respectively.
In addition to Reprise, Ballet Kelowna will present both Cuatro Estaciones and MAMBO as part of their inaugural tour of Atlantic Canada and Quebec in 2022.
